You Can Finally Use The Same WhatsApp Account On Up To 4 Smartphones Thanks To The New Companion Mode Now Rolling Out-April 2024
Apr 18, 2025 2:42 PM

Less than a year ago, we heard that WhatsApp was working on a new feature called Companion Mode, it would essentially allow all users to use the same account on up to four devices separately, and at that time, we didn't know if it would ever make it out as an actual feature, that changes today as the platform is finally updating the beta version with the feature, allowing you to have more freedom with how you handle your chats.

Companion mode on WhatsApp is an excellent tool for those who have multiple smartphones but want to use the same account on all devices

The information was spotted by folks over at WABetaInfo, who have reported that the latest WhatsApp beta v2.23.8.2 on Android is finally getting access to Companion Mode. However, if you want to use this on two devices, both have to be running the same version in order for the feature to work.

You can look at the screenshot below:

As mentioned before, the feature is only available on WhatsApp for Android beta version v2.23.8.2, which means you will most likely have to wait for it to hit the stable channel finally. However, if you cannot wait, you can always enroll in the beta program, and that should get the job done for you.

Now, if you are wondering how companion mode is different from the already existing feature which lets you link your WhatsApp account to multiple devices such as a computer or a tablet, companion mode allows you to go ahead and link the same account to multiple phones. All your chats will be synced across your phones, and the paired phone should function the same way as the primary phone. You do not even need to have internet active on all paired devices at once, making it a hassle-free experience for those who do want to use the feature.

At the time of writing, the companion mode is only available for the WhatsApp beta version on Android. There is no word when it will make its way to iOS, but users don't have to worry as WhatsApp normally pushes the update simultaneously, so you should be getting the update pretty soon.

Once the update is live, we'll publish a guide on how to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones. Till then, stay tuned.
