WhatsApp is one of the most popular internet messaging apps in the world and the active user base keeps on expanding. The company updates the app from time to time, introducing new features to the table for users to take advantage of. Today, WhatsApp has added a new feature in its main app that allows users to edit a sent message. The feature is available on iPhone as well as Android and it is advised that you update the app right now. Scroll down to read more details on the subject.

WhatsApp's latest update lets you edit sent messages and does not impose limitations like iMessage

The feature was announced by WhatsApp in a blog post today and it is one of the most highly requested features by users. The feature lets you edit an older message that you have sent to your family or friends. However, there is a time limitation for the feature to work. You only have the initial 15 minutes to edit the message before the option disappears. When the time is passed, you will not be allowed to make further changes to the sent message.

WhatsApp's latest feature is not an innovation but a blatant rip-off of Apple's iteration of iMessage. iMessage also allows users to edit a message in the first 15 minutes after the message is sent to the recipient. In iMessage, you can edit a message up to five times and each edition is visible to both parties. This keeps the conversation transparent and seamless. However, WhatsApp has introduced its own set of settings for the new feature.

Edit Sent Messages in WhatsApp for iOS and Android

In WhatsApp's ability to edit messages, the company has not imposed a limit to the number of edits you can perform. What this means is that you can edit a message with ease before it is locked. Furthermore, WhatsApp also hides the original or unedited message history from the receiver. The only indication that a message has been edited is a small "edited" icon next to the time stamp. This is the only way through which you can tell if a message has been tampered with.

As mentioned earlier, WhatsApp is rolling out the update on iPhone as well as Android on a global scale. If you want to use the feature right now, you should update the app from the App Store or the Play Store. if the update is not available as of yet, it will gradually reach your region.
