Games Workshop just announced the release of a new Warhammer mobile game. Dubbed as Warhammer Odyssey, it comes just three months after Warhammer: Chaos and Conquest made its debut. The announcement also promises plenty of free episodic updates that will introduce more enemies and bosses, and more locations to rumble around in. Warhammer Odyssey is set is Warhammer's Old World timeline, one plagued with the influence of Morrslieb the Chaos Moon and doomsayers roam the lands. According to the official website:
We’ll take players on a journey through Warhammer’s Old World, initially the city of Marienburg and it’s surrounding area, from winding back alleys through to the depths of Drakwald Forest. As the game expands through regular episodic content updates we will bring to life other iconic locations throughout the world. For those who are already fans of Warhammer’s rich lore you may also cross paths with some familiar faces during your adventures.
In Warhammer: Odyssey, craft your adventurer depending on your playstyle with six character classes. Each class offers unique ways to play, such as the lightning-fast attacks and crippling debuffs of a Witch Hunter, or the offensive spells and healing abilities of an Archmage. Here are all the available classes
High Elf ArchmageHigh Elf Shadow WarriorHuman Witch HunterHuman Warrior PriestDwarf SlayerDwarf Engineer
In addition to building a character, players will be able to join forces with friends in groups, make new allies by enlisting in a Mercenary Company to defeat foes or get involved in Marienburg’s commerce. Warhammer Odyssey has no current launch date, but the official site is open for those who want to pre-register to be notified of the game’s launch as well as an opportunity to join in beta testing. And yes, the game will very likely be microtransaction-heavy. The 'free' part in the 'free-to-play' schtick is an illusion, after all.
