Apple has no black AirPods color option, but a new startup claims to paintyour existing or new AirPods in a lick of dark paint.
We Wish Apple Sold Black AirPods, But BlackPods Are Your Best Bet Until Cupertino Changes its Mind
With the release of the Black and Jet Black iPhone 7 / 7 Plus, it was almost obvious for everyone out there to expect more black colored accessories from Apple. But much to our surprise, Apple didn't make that move at all. The standard EarPods that ship with the Black and Jet Black iPhone 7 are white, along with every other accessory inside the box. Heck, even the AirPods ship in a shiny white finish, even after paying a price of $159. Come on, Apple!
Thankfully, a new startup - called BlackPods - aims to give your AirPods a lick of paint, grantingthem a trueDark Side makeover. But currently, they're only taking pre-orders for what they do.
There are two options available on BlackPods' website which you can avail. The first one is plain and simple - for a price of $249, you can directly buy a pair of black AirPods, no fuss on top. Secondly, you have the option to send in your existing pair of AirPods and BlackPods will paint them up black for a price of $99.
BlackPods claims the black finish is signed off"by a team of skilled artisans in Brooklyn, NY. Whether you purchase them through us or send yours in, each pair of AirPods is subjected to a rigorous visual and quality inspection." This ensure that each and every finish is top notch, the moment you get your hands on it.
At BlackPods, we've developed a proprietary coating system specifically for Apple's AirPods. Our three-phase approach yields a luxurious scratch-resistant finish. BlackPods are the perfect complement to any Black, Jet Black, or Space Gray iPhone.
Interestingly, the entirepainting process takes about three days to complete. But know one thing: if you add the shipping time on top of that, then you can expect things close to a week. Quite frankly, it's not bad either.
