Ever since the iPhone X became publicly available, we're seeing a wide variety of reports for the device. The most welcoming of these is perhaps reduced delivery time for the device. This will come as good news for Apple users and investors, as both will get what they want. The iPhone X is the first serious overhaul in the smartphone lineup for years. A big change in the device is Apple moving back to glass, which last appeared on the iPhone 4s. However, with this change, an old problem with the lineup resurfaces. iPhone X Drop Tests Show Glass Back Easily Shattered; Face ID Malfunctions If Device Dropped Screen First

The biggest feature on the iPhone X is Face ID. Facial recognition propels Apple right at the front of flagship smartphone manufacturers. It's a feature that is only available on the iPhone X, making for an extremely attractive unique selling point. However, Face ID isn't the only upgrade Apple made this year. We also got a much needed upgrade to OLED and a glass back. While these features are impressive, it's difficult to ascertain how durable they are.

Fortunately, we've got two different tests for you today which shed light on the matter. First off, it's CNET, who carried out some amateur drop tests on the iPhone X. The back of the smartphone is the easiest to crack, with the screen sounding durable at drops of 3ft. However, ceramic and the device's display don't bode well, with moderate amount of pressure resulting in scratches.

The second test is from the folks over at Square Trade. They've tested the iPhone X by dropping it from a height of 6ft from the side, front and back. Out of these, when dropped from the side or front, the iPhone's OLED display malfunctions, alongside shattered back and front. Face ID stops working when dropped face down or put inside a tumbler. We all knew what the return of glass meant for the iPhone. If you don't like spending a lot on repairs, a case is a must have for the smartphone.

At this point, Apple's clearly sacrificed durability for the sake of functionality. Not that the company's to blame. Cupertino's been under a lot of pressure lately to live up to the mantra of 'innovation' that its late co-founder defined it with. And it delivers with the iPhone X - both above and under the hood.
