Samsung Will Commence Note 9 Development In Early 2018; Device Code-named As 'Crown'

Apple's decision to launch Face ID on the iPhone X has put all Android manufacturers on the back foot. And while most makers might use Qualcomm's solutions to bring facial recognition on their devices as well, it won't have the same touch. After all, an in-house solution is an in-house solution, meriting more attention and praise than licensed solutions. That being said, today we've got some news for the Galaxy Note 9.

These days it's virtually impossible for manufacturers to keep the wraps on any device, let alone a flagship. Information often leaks out months before launch, with the rumor mill filtering out unnecessary details in the time between. Now, looks like the Galaxy Note 9 is a rumor mill favorite. Today's leak sheds some light on its production cycle and internal codename.

The device gets an internal code-name of 'Crown', hinting at strong plans. Earlier rumors for the Note 9 suggest that the device will deliver where its predecessors failed. Samsung's rumored to launch it with virtual fingerprint recognition, skipping the feature on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Furthermore, three different suppliers are rumored to provide Seoul with the necessary parts for under the screen fingerprint recognition.

If the Note 9, and not the Galaxy S9, features virtual fingerprint recognition, expect market attitudes to shift for Samsung's devices. Already, the Note lineup is the only one with dual cameras. With fingerprint sensing thrown in the mix, Samsung will effectively create two different product categories, and users will focus their attention on the Note 9 instead. Thoughts?
