Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 Benchmarks Show Strong Single Core Performance As Chip Giant Reverses Ill Fate-April 2024
Apr 23, 2025 9:39 PM

Qualcomm's seen mixed fortunes over the past couple of years. The company's Snapdragon 810 became the center of a costly overheating controversy. Nearly every manufacturer who equipped their device(s) with the processor faced overheating issues. This resulted in widespread market dissatisfaction. The company was quick to respond with the Snapdragon 820,that features 'custom' Kryo cores. While the 820 didn't come with CPU throttling, it still didn't top Samsung's Exynos 8890 in scores and performance. We saw the Snapdragon 821 launched last month, that's claimed to improve performance over its predecessor. Today, some benchmarks of the 821 have surfaced so take a look at them below.

The ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe Surfaces In Benchmarks Showing Impressive Scores

Given its recent launch, the Snapdragon 821 is yet to feature in any mass market device. Some quarters had hoped the processor to make an appearance on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. But the device came and went without any mention of the Snapdragon 821. We saw the ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe come with the processor and a rather exorbitant price tag.

The ZenFone comes with variants that feature 4 and 6GB of RAM. These are coupled with the Snapdragon 821 and a 23MP rear camera sensor. These, coupled with 32 and 256GB storage variants should ensure that the needs of even the most demanding users are met. Today, some benchmarks of the device have surfaced. These show that the Snapdragon has finally started to catch up the Exynos in terms of performance.

The ZenFone 3 Deluxe scores 1850 and 4378 in single and multi-core results respectively. It's also clocked at 2.19GHz in today's scores. This shows that the small tier cores of the device are at work. The Snapdragon 821 clocks in at 2.2 and 2.4GHz for its big and LITTLE cores. The good news is that single core results for the processor have finally started to catch up to the Exynos, a feat that's taken Qualcomm some time to achieve.

The Snapdragon 821 should feature on more devices this year. Google's yet to launch its re-branded Pixel and Pixel-XL smartphones. Both the devices are rumored to feature the Snapdragon 821 on board. It's only natural for Mountain View to choose the processor for its devices, especially since its looking to make a much stronger impact this year. Today's benchmarks end up painting a strong picture for the Snapdragon 821. We've got our hopes up for the processor. Thoughts?
