Apple's Next-Gen Desktop OS Is Now A Non-Beta Affair

Apple took to the stage atGraham Bell Civic Auditorium and has announced immediate availability of its next-gen OS's GM build for the Mac, OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Hopefully, this time around, Apple will only seed just one Golden Master build to developers before making the OS available to the end users. Last time, Apple took the liberty to announce several GM builds before reaching a milestone final release. Hopefully, that won't be the case this time around. We have our fingers crossed for it drastically.

OS X 10.11 El Capitan is a powerful OS that compliments iOS 9 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch really well. Packed to the rafters with great power user features, Apple has made sure that its desktop experience is as top notch as possible this time around.

Having seeded several betas already, with a Public Beta program also in action to gather as much feedback from non-developers, Apple is poised to make this release as bug free and smooth as possible. The Cupertino isn't resting easy on its laurels this time around, and the under the hood improvements the company has implemented are unlike the ones which made the cut with the release of OS X Yosemite last year.

Of course, Apple will keep on updating El Capitan with fixes during its course of one year, but one thing is set, keeping in light its Beta Software Program, Cupertino wants this release to be its best one yet for the end user and developers alike.

For developers, Apple has opened up the doors to a bunch of cool new features. For instance, Apple is finally bringing its Metal engine, the one found in iOS, to the Mac, allowing developers to make even more powerful apps that have direct access to the underlying hardware of a Mac. This means that apps will launch quicker, they will perform better, and furthermore, developers now have a chance to explore unchartered territories when it comes to designing great and functional apps.

If you're a developer enrolled in the Apple Developer Program, then you can grab the GM build directly from Cupertino's devportal. The download is a few gigabytes in size, so be sure you have a steady Internet connection before you make the leap. If you have El Capitan beta installed already then you can grab the update from the 'Updates' tab in the Mac App Store.

Are you upgrading to OS X 10.11 El Capitan GM or will you wait for the final consumer release? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.
