Nvidia Unveils New Mobile, Desktop Graphics-April 2024

  Graphics developer Nvidia wants to push your pixels around, and to that end is has introduced two new graphics controllers to help your computers and games look and perform their best. The new Quadro FX 3600M for notebooks aims at the mobile professional market, while the company is kicking off its GeForce 9 series with its new super-fast GeForce 9600 GT for desktop systems.

  First up, the Quadro FX 3600M takes over the high end of Nvidia’s Quadro line for notebook computers, and aims at engineers, designers, and scientists looking for workstation-class graphics on a notebook system. The Quadro FX 3600M features 512 MB of video RAM on a 256-bit memory interface, support for OpenGL 2.1, Shader Model 4, and DirectX 10, and the ability to push up to 51.2 GBps over its bus. The system also features PowerMizer adaptive power management tools that help extend battery life. The unit should turn up in notebook systems from Compaq, Dell, Lenovo, Fujitsu, and FSC as well as other partners. Nvidia hasn’t released any pricing information, but the HP Compaq 8710w will be available with the unit soon.

  Nvidia is also looking to please desktop gamers with the first graphics controller in its GeForce 9 series, the GeForce 9600 GT. The 9600 GT offers performance benchmarks comparable to Nvidia’s GeForce 8800 GT, but a much more affordable price. The 9600 GT features 64 stream processors, a 256-bit memory interface, PureVideo HD technology for high-definition content playback, and 512 MB of video memory.

  “After going to all the GeForce LANs and seeing the rigs that gamers play on, we wanted to kick off the GeForce 9 with the perfect GPU for gamers,” said Nvidia’s general manager for GeForce desktop GPUs Ujesh Desai, in a statement. “The first product to be introduced in the GeForce 9 family gives gamers the horsepower to play cutting-edge DirectX 10 games at a price they will love and can afford.”

  The 9600 GT also supports Nvidia SLI, enabling gamers to double-up the cards and play popular games at the highest resolutions possible.

  The Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT is available now for $199; higher performance models in the GeForce 9 line are sure to be announced in the coming months.
