The MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning has finally been unveiled by Videocardz, showcasing the latest Tri-Frozr design that will be featured on top of NVIDIA's flagship GM200 GPU core. The GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning has been one of the most anticipated graphics cards as its aimed solely at the enthusiast community with a passion to overclock to the limits. The GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning with its beefy design will prove that MSI has once again built a great Lightning card based on high-end cores.

MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning Unleashed - Tri-Frozr Cooling and Military Class V Components

MSI has created their latest Lightning graphics card two years after the launch of the MSI GeForce GTX 780 Ti Lightning. The MSI GeForce GTX 980 TI Lightning features the GM200-300-A1 GPU which comes with 2816 Cuda cores, 176TMUs and 96ROPs. The card is clocked at factory overclocked specs of 1203MHz baseand 1303MHz boost while the memory comes at a clock speed of 1774MHz (7.00 GHz) pumping out 340.00 GB/s bandwidth. The MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning sticks with the 6 GB GDDR5 memory buffer that is operated along a 384-bit bus. The card is packed with a lot of headroom for overclocking so we can expect overclocked speeds around 1500 MHz on air and possibly even further.

As for overclocking, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning comes with mighty strong PCB that is geared and ready to see some overclocking action. The GeForce GTX 980 Lightning Ti features an 12+3+1phase VRM along with the new DrMOS 5being thenext-gen MOSFET which is used to deliver the power for the GPU. We can see an abundance of Military Class components on the card with the specialized PWM design, the several voltage check points and controls to configure voltages in real time. The MSI 980 TI Lightning will also come with a LN2 defroster feature which will allow the left over solid LN2 to break down after use. The card has an insane power draw configuration with dual 8-Pin connectors and a single 6-Pin connector that feed the power to the graphics core. This is around 425W of total power that can be pushed to the board for overclocking purposes while the standard TDP of the GM200 core lies around 250W. The PCB is a 10 layer design which adds more strength to the board itself and has Dual-BIOS design to save overclock profiles.

The cooling on MSI’s GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning is handled by the latest TriFrozr cooler which is making an debut with the new Lightninggraphics card. Getting a facial uplift over the 780 Ti Lightning, the new one looks amazing boasting three fans, two black colored while one 80mm yellow themed fan sits in the middle. The shroud looks fantastic with a large Lightning logo on one side and a massive aluminum fin array sitting beneath it which cools the GPU under massive overclocked loads. The heatsink is equipped with five dense SuperPipes (heatpipes) that offer superior direct contact and heat dissipation off the GPU base. The interesting part is that the fan in the middle dissipates heat off the PWM supply while the other two fans cool the GPU andMemory chips. Display outputs include DVI, HDMI 2.0 and three Display ports. The card comes with a great backplate that featured the F22 Thunder along with the Lightning logo etched in white color.

The card is expected to make its debut this week but as for pricing, we really have no information but given the GTX 780 Ti Lightning, we can expect it to cost a heft premium over the $649 US reference price of the GTX 980 TI graphics card.
