iPhone X Screen Becoming Unresponsive In Cold Weather, Apple Working On A Fix-April 2024
Apr 23, 2025 9:32 PM

Some iPhone X users have been experiencing an issue that makes their device's screen unresponsive in cold weather. Apple has acknowledged the issue and said that it was working on a fix. iPhone X users who are living in cold regions of the world have reported that the screen on their iPhone X stops working as soon as they step outside of their home and into the cold weather. So let's dive in to see some more details on the matter.

iPhone X Screen Becoming Unresponsive For Users When Exposed To Cold Weather

If you happen to have an iPhone X and you're living in a cold region, you might have come across a situation where your device's screen stops working or is unresponsive to touch. An Apple spokesperson told The Loop's Dave Mark that“We are aware of instances where the iPhone X screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment”. However, the screen starts to work again after a few seconds. Apple said that the issue will be resolved in the upcoming software update.

A Reddit post reads:

I’ve noticed that my iPhone X screen becomes very unresponsive as soon as I step outside. It literally takes two seconds from going inside to the cold outdoors and my screen stops being very responsive. I try swiping on websites and it doesn’t register my finger. It’s very noticeable. Is anyone else having this problem?

Edit: possible other explanation might be the drastic changes in light that are causing problems.

Edit2: looks like some people are having issues while others are not. Might be different colors/sizes of iPhones that were affected. Can we get Apple to investigate?

Apple said that an iOS device works best at temperatures between0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Apple notes that“Low or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature".

At this point, for what we know, the issue is not widespread and the device seems to work just fine for most of the users. Nonetheless, since Apple has acknowledged the issue, it will be resolved in the forthcoming iOS update. Possibly, the unresponsive screen issue results due to a rapid change in temperature and once it is stabilized, the screen starts to respond again. Most probably, the company will fix the issue in its iOS 11.2 update which rests in the beta phase at the moment. We will update you guys as soon as we hear more details on the matter.

This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on the iPhone X's unresponsive screen in cold weather? Have you faced the issue? Share your views with us in the comments.
