Apple's iPhone 15 lineup is mere two months away, and we are expecting major changes in the standard and 'Pro' models. The company will keep up with its trend and announce the iPhone 15 lineup in the first half of September. The handsets will be available to the general public a week after the announcement. It is now being reported that the iPhone 15 Pro models are running into display production issues which might cause 'severe shortages in terms of supply.
iPhone 15 Pro could face 'severe shortages' due to display issues by LG, announcement slated to take place on time
It was previously reported that the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature slimmer bezels, potentially one of the smallest on any smartphone. To cut down the bezel size on the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple had to introduce a new production method. The new display manufacturing process for the iPhone 15 Pro models will likely be the reason for supply shortages. The details were shared by The Information, suggesting that the iPhone 15 Pro Max supply will be largely affected.
As mentioned earlier, Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will launch with slimmer bezels at launch. However, the chassis of the device is rumored to stay the same, allowing the company to fit a bigger display in the same housing. Since the demand for the devices is expected to be higher than the standard models, the iPhone 15 Pro displays will be manufactured by LG and Samsung both. LG's display manufacturing process is causing issues, resulting in poor reliability in the "risk ramp" stage.
The issue came to light when Foxconn began its "risk ramp" production. The "risk ramp" stage is where a supplier produces hundreds and thousands of units to check the reliability of the manufacturing process and the devices before final mass production begins. Henceforth, if the company does not take the required measures, we could potentially see delays in the production and the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro models.
Take note that the company will not delay the announcement of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models. Apple will host its special event in September to announce the new iPhone 15 lineup and the Apple Watch Series 9. Mainly, the iPhone 15 Pro Max supply shortages are expected, with the 6.1-inch model slated to be steady in terms of production. Additionally, only LG displays are causing issues, as Samsung displays are unaffected.
It remains to be seen if Apple will take additional steps to ramp up production ahead of the iPhone 15 Pro launch. It was also previously reported that the standard iPhone 15 models will also feature a delay. We will keep you guys updated on the latest, so be sure to stick around.
