Pod2g has been working tirelessly for this pleasant Christmas gift for iOS users and has done it once again. Before beginning check out the limitations of this procedure which are as followed:
iPhone 4S and iPad 2 cannot be jailbroken on iOS 5 yetIf you have an iPhone unlocked with ultrasn0w or a GeveySIM, update with a modified IPSW and then use redsn0w

Step 1: Make sure your device is updated to iOS 5.0.1. If not download and update your device to iOS 5.0.1.
Step 2: Download Redsnow 0.9.10b1 from here for MacOSX or Windows (run in administrator mode)
Step 3: Enter into DFU mode and plug your device into the computer (If you do not know how to enter into DFU mode then open redsnow and follow the instructions). The jailbreak will start as soon as the device is detected in DFU mode.
Step 4: Select Install Cydia from the available options and proceed.
Note: If your device is already running a tethered jailbreak then deselect Install Cydia
Enjoy your untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1.
If you are already running a tethered jailbreak you can also convert it into an untethered jailbreak from Cydia. Go to Cydia and install the package ‘Corona’ and it’ll replace your patched files or add those missing for an untethered jailbreak.
