Intel Arc “Xe-LPG” GPU For Meteor Lake Now Sits Ahead of AMD’s 780M “RDNA 3” iGPU In Latest Leak-September 2024

The competition between integrated GPUs is about to get heated as Intel's Meteor Lake CPUs approach launch, packing their brand new Arc Xe-LPG iGPUs.

Intel & AMD To Fight Off In The Next Hot GPU Segment, The Integrated Graphics Market: Meteor Lake Arc "Xe-LPG" Shows Promising Figures But RDNA 3 Continues To See Wide Support

The latest benchmarks have once again leaked within the Geekbench 5 benchmark where we saw a previous entry for the same Intel chip. The chip in question is the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H which is a mainstream SKU within the Meteor Lake family but would see a wide array of options as the higher end parts might be limited in availability at launch and that might stay the case until early 2024. The laptop with the latest performance leak is the ASUS Zenbook 14.

The GPU department on the Core Ultra 7 155H CPU boasts the Intel Arc "Xe-LPG" Graphics solution with 128 EUs or 1024 ALUs clocked at up to 2250 MHz. This is the same clock speed as the last leak but what might be different are the performance/thermal/power profiles. Higher limits and better thermal capabilities can result in a CPU with the same specs performing much better in a cramped environment such as a laptop.

With that said, we also have to remember that Meteor Lake is about a month away so we can see final drivers with proper optimizations to add even more graphics and compute performance. Intel had already stated that their core priorities with Arc were to focus on newer APIs and once those are fully tuned, they can then look into optimizing legacy APIs such as DX10/9, etc. OpenCL doesn't technically land in legacy APIs but it certainly shouldn't sway away the software team's effort from the good work that they have been doing so we might see even better performance down the lane.

In terms of performance, the Intel Meteor Lake's Arc "Xe-LPG" GPU scored 33,948 points, a good increase over the previous entry which now lets it flex its muscles above the Radeon 780M, AMD's top integrated RDNA 3 graphics solution. The GPU also sits ahead of the GTX 1060 6 GB desktop GPU and comes close to the likes of the Arc A380 and GTX 1650 Ti, which are still widely popular amongst entry-level gamers on desktops and laptops.

Considering that this isn't the top SKU and Intel is promising some great clock frequency potential on its Arc "Xe-LPG" GPUs, we can also expect the same chips to be great for gaming. Now in this particular segment, AMD has been the key leader within the iGPU segment for several years now with solid hardware capabilities and support from various vendors including several handheld manufacturers who continue to use Red Team's solution to power their gaming devices. That may be changing soon as we have seen but it will definitely be a heated battle from now on. Intel just being on par with AMD's integrated solution will be huge but they have to keep up with this newly built momentum as their adversary is likely not going to stop with their pace anytime soon.

The software side on both teams for iGPUs is very robust with both backing up their hardware with proper upscaling techniques and ray tracing capabilities. AMD does has more options available to gamers ever since the launch of FSR 3, HYPR-RX, and AFMF but Intel excels in offering better RT and even their image upscaling technology tends to be slightly visually superior to AMD's offerings.
