Its been a while since Instagram introduced its Snapchat-like Stories feature. The company has gradually added features that closes the gap between the two platforms. However, there are certain features missing from Instagram Stories that Snapchat has been offering for a long time. This time around, Instagram has decided to add Geostickers in its photo sharing platform. The new addition allows individuals to arrange and add different illustrations based on their location. Let's dive in to see some more details on the subject.
Instagram Stories Now Includes Location-based Visual Tools For Users
As we have mentioned earlier, Instagram is copying Snapchat's location-based features. The latest will add digital stickers based on an individual's location which can then be added to Stories. However, the new feature is not yet available across the globe, instead it is only available in New York and Jakarta, Indonesia. So if you reside in any of these locations, you will be able to make use of the new Geostickers in Instagram Stories.
Unlike the location-based stickers, the new Geostickers provide an ample of visual accessories to choose from. The accessories provided supports the city you are in along with the neighboring ones. The Geostickers also acts as a pin of location reference which will allow users to tap on them and see more photos taken within the same area.
Snapchat's Geofilters were launched back in 2014. However, we couldn't resize or rearrange their position. The mobility was added in August of last year as to provide users with some customization options. One key difference between Geostickers and Geofilters is that the Instagram page can be instantly accessed with a tap. So this is definitely a plus for Instagram.
However, Instagram Stories still lack one of the iconic features of Snapchat - the augmented reality lenses and detailed World lenses. Henceforth, if Instagram continues to copy features from Snapchat, we will probably see the aforementioned feature soon. The feature will be available on both iOS and Android. The update has already begun rolling out, but the Geostickers will currently be available in the two cities we have mentioned earlier.
Even though Instagram's Geostickers are a Snapchat-like addition, it's definitely a welcome change for the platform's hefty user base. There will be more to the story, so be sure to stay tuned with us.
This is it for now, folks. What are your thoughts on Instagram's Geostickers? Do you think it's a neat addition to the platform? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
