Huawei Shows off Windows 10-Based MacBook Air Competitor, the Matebook 13 but With Better Specs-April 2024
Apr 26, 2025 3:19 AM

At this year’s CES, Huawei has unveiled the Matebook13, a laptop that sits between the cheaper MatebookD and E series and the flagship MatebookX series. As the Matebook X was competing with the MacBook Pro, it is evident that Huawei wants to match Apple blow by blow with the unveiling of the Matebook 13 by making it compete against the MacBook Air.

MacBook Air Has a New Competitor that Sports a Cheaper Price Coupled With Better Hardware Specifications

The 13-inch display of the new laptop has a resolution of 2,160 x 1,440pixels, an aspect ratio of 3:2, and maximum brightness of 300 nits. The Matebook13 features an aluminum unibody design which has a premium look to it, same as the MacBook Air. Measuring 14.9mm, the laptop isthinner than Apple’s 15.9mm MacBook Air. The keyboard deck houses the dual speakers, and Dolby Atmos is supported.

Coming to why some might believe the Matebook13 will be a better option than the MacBook Air; its hardware. The notebook will be available in two configurations;an entry-level model with an 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8265U processor, 256GB of storage, and Intel's UHD620 graphics, while the maxed out variant has an 8th-generation Intel Core i7-8565U processor, 512GB of storage, and an NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card. Both the options have 8GB of RAM, and it not yet know if customers will be able to upgrade the RAM.

The laptop also has a headphone jack and two USB-C ports(no confirmation if they support Thunderbolt 3 or not), and there is also a dock that adds VGA, HDMI, and USB-Aports. The fingerprint scanner isintegrated into the power button, and the 1MP webcam can be foundin the top bezel.

The Matebook13 will start retailing from January 29 in the U.S., and it can be bought through retailers such as Amazon and Newegg. If you’re just looking for a device geared towardsmedia consumption, Huaweimight have something just for you in the form of its new Android tablet, the MediaPad M5 Lite.

The slate is fueled by the Huawei’s Kirin 659 chipset and sports a 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200-pixeldisplay. The tablet has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, andit will be available by the end of Julyfor$299.The fact that Huawei has added a quad-core ‘U’ series processor while pricing it $200 less than the base model of the MacBook Air gives consumers a better option unless of course they want to experience macOS.
