The official bootloader unlocking for new HTC phones such as the Evo 3D and Sensation is nearing completion. HTC previously hinted at August as the month when this process will start and it looks like for a change they'll be true to their words. According to their Facebook page, they'll be offering a web based tool for those who want their bootloaders unlocked. The process will be as follows:
The Web tool, which will launch this month, requires that youregister an account with a valid e-mail address and accept legal disclaimers thatunlocking may void all or parts of your warranty. Then plug in your phone to a computer with the Android SDK loaded to retrieve a device identifier token, which you can then enter into the Web tool to receive a unique unlock key via e-mail. Finally, apply the key to your device andunlocking will be initiated on your phone.
Seems rather simple enough. You will of course invalidate your warranty once you unlock the bootloader which is strange since the whole process is officially backed by HTC. But then again you cant possibly expect HTC to clean whatever mess you'll make with root access, which lets be fair, people most definitely will.
