Here's how you can enable WPA3 / WPA2 security on your Google or Nest Wifi mesh system using Google Home app on iPhone and Android.
Boost Your Google or Nest Wifi Network Security by Enabling WPA3 from the Google Home App
It just seems logical at this point that you need extra layer of protection on your home or office Wi-Fi network as you move forward. There's no bigger red flag than a weak security measure, which can potentially expose all your private data to ill-intentioned individuals. So, with that in mind, we will show you how you can enable the latest WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 3) on your Google or Nest Wifi mesh system in a few easy steps. You can do this right from the Google Home app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device.
But, before we go any further, what exactly is WPA3 and why do you need it? Here's a quick rundown of the latest security protocol straight from the Wi-Fi Alliance website:
WPA3™ provides cutting-edge security protocols to the market. Building on the widespread success and adoption of Wi-Fi security, WPA3 adds new features to simplify Wi-Fi security, enable more robust authentication, deliver increased cryptographic strength for highly sensitive data markets, and maintain resiliency of mission critical networks.
We won't jump into technical details here, except tell you that it is the next big thing in security and you should enable it if your Wi-Fi router or access point supports it.
Tutorial
Note: Please know that once you enable this feature on your Google / Nest Wifi system, devices that only support WPA1 won't be able to connect to the network anymore. If you have too many of those, and require them daily, then you may want to skip this tutorial entirely. WPA3 works with a mix of WPA2 only. It completely disables WPA security once you upgrade to WPA3.
Step 1. Launch the Google Home app from your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. Make sure you are signed into the app and have access to the Google / Nest Wifi system you are enabling WPA3 on.
Step 2. Now tap on the Wi-Fi button on the top of the Home app.
Step 3. Now tap on the Settings icon on the top right hand corner.
Step 4. Scroll down and you will see the WPA3 toggle switch. Tap to turn it on.
Step 5. You will see a warning telling you that devices not compatible with WPA3 might have issues connecting to your network. Tap on the Turn on button.
Step 6. Your entire network will now restart and then come back online after a few minutes with WPA2 / WPA3 enabled.
Remember, if you're having too many issues with WPA3 enabled, then you can always turn the feature off and revert back to WPA2 / WPA security by following the above steps again and turning off the WPA3 switch in step 4.
