Apr 18, 2025 11:12 PM

Here's how you can enable the Galaxy S8 Developer Options in a few easy steps. This tutorial is applicable for Galaxy S8+ users too.

Enable Galaxy S8 Developer Options for More Control Over Your Device - That's What Android is All About

The out of the box smartphone experience is more than enough to keep a user busy for a long period of time. Sure, you can download third-party apps and whatnot to take the experience even further. But wouldn't it be great if there was a way to tinker around with your device even more on a stock level? That's where the 'Developer Options' panel of an Android device comes in.It houses a lot of different features that are meant to be for 'developers only.' Of course, it never hurts the average user to try them out.

In today's tutorial, we'll be teaching users how to enable Developer Options on a Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+. It's a simple walk in the park, so pick up your device and follow my lead.

Enable Galaxy S8 Developer Settings Tutorial

1. First and foremost bring down the notifications shade and tap on the Settings(cogwheel) icon at the top right hand corner. Alternatively, you can open up Settings from the app drawer as well by sliding up on the (stock) home screen.

2 Now scroll all the way down and select About Phone.

3. Tap on Software Information.

4. See that Build Number entry? Start tapping on it till you see an on-screen prompt stating that you're a developer.

In order to confirm that the Developer Options have been unlocked for you, just go back to the main Settings page and scroll all the way down. You should see a Developer Options entry at the very bottom.

A Little Warning for Users...

Developer Options are great and all, but don't go overboard with certain aspects of it. There is a high chance that changing certain values might render your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ slightly unusable, forcing you to either reset your phone or disable Developer Options altogether. It's best to read through what you are getting into first, then start experimenting with it.

Start off with the Force GPU Rendering option, which does exactly what the name implies - forces usage GPU throughout the operating system. This will give you high performance in different places, but can be a brutal burden on the battery.

Like I said: experiment around and find the right mix.
