3D touch is the jewel on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus for this year. It boasts the ability to provide quick shortcuts and actions depending on the amount of pressure applied tothe screen. The 3D Touch is fun to use and provides easy accessibility over many new and improved features added in Apple's latest operating system, iOS 9. However, if you want to take advantage of Apple's 3D Touch, you will have to own an iPhone 6s or its bigger variant. This is a bummer for a lot of users since many users are not planning to upgrade their iPhone just yet.
However, if you possess a jailbroken device, you can use the 3D Touch feature on older generation iPhones. The original 3D Touch is depending on the new pressure sensitive display embedded in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus alone. Users can make use of the new jailbreak tweak toget 3D Touch-like experience on older generation iPhones. The new jailbreak tweak Force Touch Activator has been released in Cydia which will provide users with the ability to use 3D Touch-like feature on their older iPhones or devices running iOS 8.
Let's see how the Force Touch Activator achieved its purpose without the capacitive sensors built into the Retina display.
Force Touch Activator Features 3D Touch Like Interactive Controls
It is rather simple how developers have taken advantage of the display technology to introduce 3D Touch like feature on older iPhones. Force Touch Activator merely responds to the amount of surface area your finger takes when pressing the display. A tap takes up less space than a proper force press. Hence, developers have found a neat way, other than the long press alternative, to access 3D Touch-like feature on older generation iPhones.
Currently, the tweak only provides users with the ability to launch an Activator action after force touching the display. Users will have to manually assign actions to the press. You can do this by going to the preference pane of the Force Touch Activator in Settings and assign a specific event to the 'Force Touch' gesture. The assigned action can then be triggered via pressing firmly on the display.
However, users should take note that Force Touch Activator only offers a single gesture support. Due to the tweaks nature, it can and will support other actions as well. So let's hope the update arrives soon. If you want to put your hands on this new Force Touch Activator jailbreak tweak, it is available in Cydia's BigBoss repo.
