Google's latest Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL handsets are great as they bring a bevy of new additions to the table. Some of the new front-facing additions include an additional camera at the back, Motion Sense, and the 90Hz display. The 90Hz display is a pretty neat addition as it contributes to the snappiness of the handset. However, the 90Hz refresh rate on Pixel 4 is dynamically dropped. If you're not a fan of the dynamic refresh rate, here's how to force your Pixel 4 to remain set at 90Hz at all times.
Force Enable 90Hz Refresh Rate on Pixel 4 - A Few Simple Steps
Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL's 90Hz refresh rate will drop to 60Hz. This is something that is not desirable and users might want a consistent higher refresh rate. This usually happens when the screen brightness is reduced to less than 75 percent. In addition, users don't want full brightness all the time and in exchange, they are getting reduced refresh rates.
However, take note that the 90Hz refresh rate on Pixel 4 can be forced to remain high in any condition. You might have to unlock it in the settings but the option is present if you're up for it. Recently, we covered how users can force dark mode on any app in Android 10. Now, the procedure to force 90Hz refresh rate on Pixel 4 is the same since both options rest in the same Settings menu. Here's what you have to do.
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Scroll down and tap on About Phone.
3. Now, tap on theBuild Number seven times in quick succession (you will get a prompt saying that you are now a developer).
4. Once you do that, go back to Settings and navigate toSystem.
5. Tap on Advanced and thenDeveloper Options.
6. Now, locate Force 90Hz Refresh Rate under the Debugging section and toggle it on.
This is all that you have to do to force enable a 90Hz refresh rate on Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. However, we would not really recommend you doing it because the 90Hz refresh rate consumes more battery. Henceforth, the higher refresh rate all the time will make the device die faster than usual. If you're not satisfied with the 90Hz refresh rate on the Google Pixel 4, you can always toggle it off from the same menu.
That's there is to it, folks. If you're interested in force enabling 90Hz refresh on Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, there's not a lot that you need to do. Have you tried it for yourself? Let us know in the comments section below.
