Origin Access also grants members early access to upcoming games, along with discounts and other exclusive perks.
Origin Access launches this week with a lineup of 15 PC games from EA’s back catalog, including Battlefield 4, The Sims 3, Need for Speed Rivals, SimCity, Battlefield 3, This War of Mine, and Dead Space 3. After paying a $5 subscription fee, players are given access to the full versions of these games to play on-demand and without time limits.
EA notes that new games will join the service on a monthly basis, essentially outfitting Origin Access with a rotating series of popular PC games that players can enjoy at any time.
In addition to its all-you-can-play lineup, Origin Access also gives early looks at upcoming games in the form of member-exclusive trials. Upon completing these trials, player progress and stats will then carry over to the full versions of featured games at launch.
The service additionally offers member-exclusive discounts that give subscribers incentive to purchase full versions of games that they initially played for free. Origin Access subscribers receive a 10 percent discount on all Origin purchases, including games, DLC, and add-ons.
Origin Access follows up on EA Access, a similar service Electronic Arts launched for the Xbox One in 2014. Like Origin Access, EA Access offers a playable lineup of full-version games that players can sample or play through for a monthly fee. EA Access’ current lineup includes legacy releases like Titanfall, Peggle 2, and EA Sports UFC, along with newer fare like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Battlefield Hardline.
Origin Access is available exclusively for Windows PCs. Members are billed $5 on a monthly basis, with an option to cancel at any time.
