tvOS 10.1.1 Adds Polish to an Already Polished Firmware

tvOS is an extremely powerful platform in a wide variety of ways. Apart from letting users consume video and audio related content on the fly, tvOS brings apps and games to the big screen too. Interestingly, the software has been quite stable since day one, but Apple sees it fit to add more features and whatnot to keep things interesting at all times. Today, we are seeing tvOS 10.1.1 being released for all AppleTV 4 users around the globe. If you are hoping for new features to arrive, then don't expect that from this release. But do expect some bug fixes and performance enhancements around corners, adding quite a bit of polish to your TV experience.

Installing the latest tvOS update is easy. Connect your device to either WiFi or an Internet-enabled Ethernet connection, then launch the Settings app from your home screen. Scroll all the way down to System and then select Software Updates. Install the available update and let your Apple TV 4 restart to complete the installation.

You can even perform a clean installation of tvOS 10.1.1 on your Apple TV 4 if you so desire. But remember one thing - you will be required to connect your Apple TV 4 with your computer, which is impossible to do so without a USB-C to USB-C or USB-C to USB-A cable. These cables are, thankfully, easily available from outlets such as Amazon.

Once you have sourced yourself a cable, connect the USB-C end in your Apple TV and the other in your computer. Now launch iTunes, select your Apple TV 4 from the top left hand corner, then click on Restore Apple TV while holding down the left Shift key (Windows) or the left Option key (Mac). Select the IPSW file (linked below) when prompted for it. The entire restore process will begin immediately and the installation will take no more than 10 minutes. But remember, the clean restore process will delete everything off your Apple TV 4.

If you love consuming content on your Apple TV 4, then please update to the latest firmware immediately. While it may not bring anything new to the table in terms of features, but it offers bug fixes and performance enhancements in certain places. That alone is enough to make this release worthy of an upgrade.
