Put Your iPad on the Left Instead of Right While Using Sidecar? Here's How You Can Set and Customize the iPad Display Position

You can skip buying a second display for your Mac if you have a spare iPad lying around thanks to Sidecar. It's a marvelous little feature and something we find ourselves using quite a lot when we want to fit in more windows than usual.

Right out of the box, when you set up and use Sidecar for the first time, you are supposed to place your iPad on the right side of your Mac. It's understandable, we naturally lean towards the right when we want to extend the display. But what if you want to place your iPad on the left and have the desktop extend to the left hand side instead?

In today's tutorial, we will show you how you can set and customize the iPad display position in Sidecar and hopefully leave you with a more productive way to work between iPadOS 13 and macOS Catalina.

Tutorial

Step 1. Launch Sidecar as you normally do by clicking on the AirPlay icon in the Mac menu bar and then selecting your iPad to extend your display.

Step 2. Now launch System Preferences on your Mac.

Step 3. Click on Displays.

Step 4. Now tap on the Arrangement tab at the top.

Step 5. The solid blue display here is your iPad. The display with a menu bar on top is your primary Mac display. Just click and hold on the iPad display in this window and move it towards the left hand side. Refer to the screenshot below for a better idea.

If you would like to revert this change, simply drag the iPad display from the Arrangement tab to the right hand side. It's as simple as that.

There are a lot of reasons why you'd want to change the iPad display position in Sidecar. I'll give you mine - it feels more natural for me to have a reference browser tab open on the left hand side rather than the right. You might have your own reasons, and now you know how to better personalize your workflow as well.
