Feb 5, 2025 12:56 AM

If you are the type of person who does not upgrade his iPhone every year, you might feel a little left out on speed. While performance is not the only factor to be worried about with aging iPhones, you must have noticed strange behavior in the hardware department as well. For instance, the mute toggle switch, volume keys or the Home button. Sometimes, the Home button is unresponsive for a little while, in other cases it stops working permanentlyas devices get older. It shows a delayed response that makes you want to press it multiple times.

If you're one of those people with a Home button that's unresponsive or it has stopped working, you should give this trick a whirl. The trick involves recalibrating your aging iPhone or iPad's Home button to give it a refresh. Don't worry, you don't have to rip your device apart to fix it.

So let's see what you need to do to fix an unresponsive Home button on your iPhone.

Calibrate The Home Button Of Your iOS Device

Recalibrating your iPhone or iPad's Home button is a neat trick which has been present for a long time. It provides an easy way to make your Home button more responsive without any major effort. To calibrate your iPhone or iPad's Home button, make sure to follow the steps enlisted below.

Step 1:

Launch the stock app on your device, any app that comes pre-installed. You can open the Clock app or the Weather app in this regard.

Step 2:

While in the app, you must press and hold the Power button on your device. Keep holding it until the slider appears with the 'Slide To Power Off' message.

Step 3:

Once you let go of the power button on the slider, press and hold the Home button. Keep holding the Home button until the 'Slide To Power Off' disappears. Once it does, you will notice that the stock app has been forced closed, ending you up on your Home Screen.

That is all for calibrating your Home button on your iOS device. Now check if your Home button is more responsive than before. This is a relatively simple trick that most users are not aware of. You can use this trick on your iPhone, iPad and even your iPod Touch. If this trick fails for you, it would be viable to make use of the Home button with Assistive Touch. Assistive Touch can be accessed from Settings >> General >> Accessibility >> Assistive Touch.
