ASUS’s new ultrathin notebook takes a shot at MacBook Air
ASUS’s new ultrathin notebook takes a shot at MacBook Air-December 2024

Dell Adamo might have taken the thinest notebook in town crown from the MacBook Air, but the later is still a full pound lighter. Now ASUS have come up with an ultrathin design of their own, which seems to give the MacBook, a run for its price tag.

The new ASUS UX30 is only 0.77 inches thick and weighs 3.1 lbs. In comparison, the MacBook Air is 0.76 inches thick and weights 3.0 lbs. Not a major difference physically but the UX30 has a USD 1,100 price tag compared to USD 1,500.

Spec wise, the MacBook still shines as the UX30 is powered by an Intel Core Duo SU 9400 processor running at 1.4GHz, and 3GB of DDR2 RAM. The notebook has a 13.3-inch TFT color, LED-backlit LCD display supporting a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768. Other specs include a 320GB hard drive, Wireless-N, BlueTooth, and HDMI connectivity as well as a 5-in-1 card reader.

The notebook would be running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit version out of the box, so you can rest assured that the ULV processor would have enough muscle to power your multimedia tasks.

Even though there is a $400 difference here, I believe the MacBook Air is technically more superior to the UX30 thanks to having a faster processor, DDR3 RAM and a dedicated GPU. Clearly those extra 100s were put to good use.
