Apple Pay has been expanded into new markets since its debut. This time around, Apple's mobile payment service has made its way to New Zealand, making it the 11th country in which the service is available. Let's see some more details on the service availability in the region.

Apple Pay Launched In New Zealand With ANZ Partnership

Previously, there was a "Coming Soon" label at the Apple Pay New Zealand website. Now, it has been removed that depicts the arrival of the service in the region. Other than this, a New Zealand website Stuff also confirms that the mobile payment service is now functional in the country.

Apple Pay can only be used in New Zealand using a Visa credit and debit cards issued by the ANZ bank. The mobile payment system is available through the ANZ, while other banks have shown reluctance in accepting Apple Pay. This is mainly because of the fee that Apple collects from the banks for using the service. However, Liz Maguire, ANZ executive told Stuff that Apple's mobile payment system is worth the fee.

"For us it much more about the value it brings out customers than anything else. I think we're going to see a lot of people using it because it's so easy."

She said the bank had received enquires from new customers but did not say how many.

"We think there's a lot of interest for Apple Pay in the market and when it was announced there was a lot of commentary on social media saying 'when is my bank going to offer Apple Pay'".

Apple Pay is available on all latest iPhone models from Apple including the iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 and iPhone SE. Moreover, the service is also available for iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c users with the use of the Apple Watch. Other than this, Apple Pay is available at a handful of outlets in New Zealand that includes McDonalds, Domino's, K-Mart, Hallenstein Brothers, Glassons, Storm, Noel Leeming and more.

However, Apple warns that a PIN code may be required for purchases over 80 NZD. This is a safety restriction which is also imposed in other countries. Possibly, the PIN code required for purchases over 80 NZD is to avoid any pricy purchases in case of theft.
