Apple Dismisses Pegatron As Its Exclusive AR Headset Manufacturing Partner, Operations Handed Over To Luxshare-April 2024
Apr 18, 2025 2:57 PM

Apple will potentially unveil its highly-anticipated AR Headset sometime later this year. We have previously reported that the company might see fit to announce the mixed-reality headset at its WWDC 2023 event. However, the product will reach the end user later this year. Ahead of the announcement, Apple is reportedly cutting down its exclusive manufacturing partner. Scroll down to read more details on what you should expect with the headset and when it could possibly see the light.

Pegatron will no longer offer manufacturing operations for Apple's AR Headset, Luxshare to continue

It was previously uncovered that Taiwan-based manufacturer Pegatron will be the sole partner to assemble Apple's AR Headset. Ahead of the potential launch, DigiTimes reports that Pegatron will no longer manufacture Apple's AR Headset. The report was shared in a paywalled preview, highlighting that the manufacturing and assembly processes will be delegated to Luxshare.

The report further mentions that the process was completed in March. If you are not familiar, the transfer of operations is because Pegatron is shifting its manufacturing facilities to other regions. Furthermore, Pegatron is also reported to be selling its factory in Shanghai to Luxshare. Since the company is looking to explore other regions, it seems Apple wants stability until the headset is announced and released to the public. Possibly, Pegatron could gain orders for the headset in the future from Apple.

Pegatron has been investing in the development process of the AR headset for a while, and after the recent shift, Apple's manufacturing partner will be giving it away to Luxshare. Take note that Apple is yet to unveil its AR Headset, and it might take some time for the industry to respond. What this means is that the company will initially produce small numbers of headsets. Once the market for the headset matures, Pegatron could potentially gain new orders.

Apple Cuts Pegatron as Its Sole AR Headset Maufacturing Oartner, Hands operations to Luxshare

As for Luxshare, it will handle the entire processes and operations related to the AR Headsets development and production. Apple has never relied completely on a Chinese company to manufacture an entirely new product line. Other than this, Apple's Chinese partner already works to make AirPods, Apple Watch, and other products. Since the final word rests with Apple, be sure to take the news with a grain of salt.

Apple is expected to announce its new AR Headset at its WWCC 2023 event on June 5. The initial models of the headset are rumored to be quite expensive. The company will offer budget-friendly models in the coming years. Share your views with us in the comments.
