Gingerbread updates on current Android phones is a bit of a rarity. Currently only the official Google phones, Nexus One and Nexus S carry this latest build of Android and there were many more announced at the Mobile World Conference a couple of weeks ago. If you're a Galaxy S owner, you'll be familiar with the troubles Samsung has been having in updating their flagship to Froyo, the build prior to Gingerbread. Even to this day, there are many Galaxy S(and its carrier variants) are stuck on Eclair, the 2.1 version of Android. So the news of the latest and greatest Android leaking should come as a pleasant surprise to Galaxy S owners.
Not much is currently known about its legitimacy. The ROM originated on a Polish Android forum where they claim it's an official build. Judging by Samsung's history I wouldn't hold my breath on this. But who knows, maybe this was the reason they were constantly delaying Froyo and maybe Samsung Galaxy S owners will be treated to an official Gingerbread update in the coming weeks. Its a big maybe. If you're adept at rooting and flashing your phone, you might want to head over to the XDA forums and try it out.
