Benchmarks of AMD's upcoming Hawk Point Flagship APU, the Ryzen 9 8945HS & Ryzen 5 8645HS, have leaked out & showcase strong performance against the competition.

AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS & Ryzen 5 8645HS "Hawk Point" APU Retains Strong CPU & GPU Performance, Now Coupled With A Faster AI NPU

This is the second time the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS "Hawk Point" flagship APU has been leaked within the Geekbench 6 database. The APU lineup may be a rebrand of the existing Ryzen 7040 "Phoenix" family but has some improvements to power management and the XDNA engine which enable the chip to perform slightly better. The Ryzen 7040 APUs are already showcasing strong performance versus the Intel Meteor Lake chips in leaked benchmarks so we can expect the Ryzen 8040 to retain a very competitive positioning until the true next-gen Strix Point APUs arrive in 2H 2024.

Starting with the specifications, the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS "100-000001319-50_Y" is part of the AMD 8040 "Hawk Point" family and makes use of the Zen 4 CPU, RDNA 3 GPU, and XDNA 1 NPU cores. The CPU comes in an 8-core and 16-thread configuration with 16 MB of L3 cache, 8 MB of L2 cache, a base clock of 4.0 GHz, and a boost clock of 5.2 GHz. It also features the Radeon 780M GPU based on the RDNA 3 core with 12 Compute Units and a boost clock of 2800 MHz. The chip has a TDP rating of 35-54W.

The AMD Ryzen 5 8645HS APU features 6 cores, 12 threads, 16 MB of L3 cache, and 6 MB of L2 cache. It comes with a base clock of 4.3 GHz and boosts up to 5.0 GHz while featuring the Radeon 760M iGPU with 8 Compute Units and a lower clock speed of 2700 MHz.

Although no laptop or model was mentioned, this specific chip boosted correctly to its max clock of 5.2 GHz and featured 16 GB of DDR5-5600 MT/s speeds. With this configuration, the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS "Hawk Point" APU scored a respectable 2608 points in single-core and 12,683 points in multi-core tests. This is amongst one of the highest single-core scores that a laptop Non-HX chip has achieved and it shows just how well the Zen 4 architecture is in this test. The multi-core score is slightly less than the one we saw previously but differences should be expected when comparing different laptops.

The AMD Ryzen 5 8645HS scored 2490 points in single-core and 10,627 points in multi-core. It too brings a small improvement over the Ryzen 5 7640HS APU while featuring very similar specs.
