Always-on ‘Hey Siri’ Voice Command Support Is Absent On The New iPad Pro
Always-on ‘Hey Siri’ Voice Command Support Is Absent On The New iPad Pro-January 2024
Jan 14, 2025 2:31 PM

The gigantic 12.9-inch iPad Pro is now here, bragging to be the most efficient and capable iPad to date with high-end specifications and a bevy of new features. In short, the new iPad Pro is a powerhouse, a true media consumption platform as well as a PC replacement according to Tim Cook. However, one of the handy features is missing. The always-on 'Hey Siri' voice command feature is absent on the iPad Pro, which is a bummer for many.

The M9 coprocessor in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is responsible for features like 'Hey Siri' voice commands, which were always-on. The feature allows users to access Siri without holding the Home button onyour IOS device. Basically, the feature tends to reduce labor disallowing users to reach out to the button and access Siri in case of need. This feature is pretty handy while driving, however, it's not like users would drive with a 12.9-inch screen rocking on the dock. Nonetheless, the feature would have been pretty helpful.

Let's see the reason behind the iPad Pro's lacking support for always-on 'Hey Siri' voice command function.

The iPad Pro Is Exclusive To The iPhone 6s And 6s Plus

Apple's M9 coprocessor is responsible for any motion related measurements and tasks like running, walking and other body movements with built-in accelerometer and gyroscope. According to Apple, the M9 motion coprocessor is much more efficient because it works with the A9 series of processors.

To think that the iPad Pro would be packed without an M9 coprocessor would be wrong. The chip is indeed present alongside the A9X chipset, but the iPad Pro is lacking support for always-on 'Hey Siri' feature. Previous generation devices like the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus did not feature an always-on voice command feature for accessing Siri, unless the device is plugged in. Henceforth, iPad Pro users can only access Siri through theirvoice commands while it is connected to the charger.

The lack of support for always-on 'Hey Siri' can also be sensed in the Settings app as no voice commands for the feature are available, unless the device is connected to power. This states that the iPad Pro remains exclusive to the new generation iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

This is it for now, folks. How do you feel about the absence of always-on 'Hey Siri' feature on the new 12.9-inch iPad pro? Share your thoughts in the comments.
